I read
Lust, Lies, and Love Over Lunch by Krista White for Near. Her business is based
in Washington, DC which is right in my backyard so I thought it would be
perfect. It was also $0 when I got it for my Kindle. Despite being a freebie, I
found it disappointing.
Claiming
to include anecdotes was a bit of an exaggeration. The code names were either
hokey or totally ridiculous (Samson & Delilah, Mickey & Minnie). All
interesting details about the people in question were omitted so they were
completely anonymous. The anecdotes themselves were so brief that they were
barely worth reading. Saying she included stories of actual dates was bordering
on false advertising.
Most of
the advice is common sense stuff I wouldn’t need a matchmaker to tell me. Don’t
wear a stained shirt, let the other person talk, avoid politics and religion, shower,
etc. People are paying good money to hear stuff I know be default? Really?
Another
annoyance was that I got this book since her business is based in DC. I thought
it would be more interesting since I’ll be hearing about stuff in one of my
favorite cities. So many details were omitted about who, what, where, and when
that these dates could have been taking place in New York, L. A., Chicago, or
Schenectady for all the difference it made.
Each
chapter couldn’t have been more than a couple of pages but still managed to
have a song attached to it. I don’t know what White was trying to do with all the
music references but it felt like useless filler to me. I’m not that into
R&B so I’m not going to look any of it up. Basically, the whole book was a
waste of my time.
