Do You See What I'm Saying?

I love watching people’s body language in certain situations, especially with couples. The first time Boy Toy and I spoke to each other we were in a big group. While most people in the group had their shoulders facing toward the center, his shoulders were facing me more than the group. That was the main reason I (rightly) suspected he was interested.

I really enjoy sitting in a public place and watching couples seeing who looks like they go together and who doesn’t. A friend of a friend, Peter, is about 5 feet nothing and his wife is nearly 6 feet tall. They look unexpected but any photo of them together reveals how incredibly happy they are.

I saw another couple at Target recently. I wanted to get a picture so badly but didn’t pull it off. She was Barbie doll fair where as he was about as dark as a white boy could be. She had long flowing locks to his long dreads. But between their grungy boho styles and matching gaits, there wasn’t any doubt this pair went together.

A casual friend, Kitty, posts a lot of pictures of her and her boyfriend. Every photo I’ve seen of them together tells the same story: They’re in different places in the relationship. Kitty is smitten with him and couldn’t be happier to be near him. He looks mildly amused or awkward and uncomfortable. In recent photos from a weekend away, she looked jubilant while he had a face that said “Are we done yet?”

Some folks are horrible at smiling on command. I usually look like I’m deranged or in pain. But the body can tell as much as the face. Peter always looks at ease when he’s with his wife. The boho couple had relaxed and open physical styles. Kitty’s boyfriend usually looks tense or stiff.

I truly wonder how Boy Toy and I look together. Our personalities are really different. We have very few photos of us as a couple but I’m hoping to rectify this now that he’s back in town. Any photo I’ve taken of him when we’ve been somewhere he looks very at ease and happy to be there. I always look some sort of happy in the pictures he takes. Maybe pictures of the two of us will tell the rest of the story.
