Home Sweet Own Book 18

For Mystery I read Book of Lies by Brad Meltzer. I saw him speak at the National Book Festival and enjoyed him enough to try one of his adult books. This thriller is about Cain and Abel, fathers and sons, the most famous comic book hero, and the search for the oldest murder weapon known to man.

This was what I call a blockbuster book. It’s fast paced, simple to read, and has plenty of action and deception. There are secret societies, a ruthless assassin, and a normal guy who got dragged into all this but must see it through to the end.

Including Superman was an interesting twist but it felt like a combination of Indiana Jones and Dan Brown tweaked just enough to avoid legal trouble. The Cain and Abel set-up was different but the whole thing lacked originality. I just felt like I heard this story many times over.

It was enjoyable but underwhelming. It’s good if you want an action-packed but easy beach read.
