For Movie-Book I read
One for the Money by Janet Evanovich. My mom has been in love with the series
since it started. She spent many years in Jersey and says I have a Jersey
attitude. After reading the book and seeing the movie, I’m inclined to agree.
Stephanie Plum is
down on her luck and desperate for anything to turn it around. So she gets a
crash course in bounty hunting to get big bucks and take down her ex. Evanovich
has some great lines and I laughed out loud more than once. Humor, action, and
intrigue all in one
They downplayed two
things: the extent to Vinnie’s proclivities and Ramirez and his assault on
Stephanie. In the book Ramirez is almost definitely criminally insane and
torments Stephanie among other women. They really minimized that which I was
disappointed about. They also amped up Ranger a little bit which I was fine
about since the actor is delicious.
I liked the movie and
the book but there were moments I could tell the book was from the 90’s. Some
updating was necessary and some events were rearranged but all the main ones
are there. It’s about the spirit of the story being maintained rather than a
literal translation. I’d recommend the book and the movie.
