Mixing It Up: Cry Me a River

With this many people pairing off at the same time, break-up are inevitable. I’ve always loved songs about heartbreak. IMHO any fool could write a love song but a great song about heartbreak requires firsthand experience. These are some of the best songs I know for bawling your eyes out. All of the songs are very slow and mournful. Your love is over and now you have to pick up the pieces and it hurts like Hell. You can do it knowing you’re not alone in your pain.

I Can’t Make You Love Me – ADELE
I Never Told You – Colbie Caillat
Against All Odds – Phil Collins
Over You by Now – Jana Kramer
Cold as Stone – Lady Antebellum
Over You – Miranda Lambert
Wreck of the Day – Anna Nalick
Thinking of You – Katy Perry
Without a Sound – SHeDAISY
Still Holding Out for You - SHeDAISY
Sad Beautiful Tragic – Taylor Swift
The Moment I Knew – Taylor Swift
Last Kiss – Taylor Swift
Just a Dream – Carrie Underwood
Heavily Broken – The Veronicas

Other songs I liked:
The Symphony of a Blasé – Anberlin
Battle – Colbie Caillat
Against All Odds – Mariah Carey
Hate to See Your Heartbreak – Paramore
Jar of Hearts – Christina Perri
Not like the Movies – Katy Perry
I Can’t Make You Love Me – Bonnie Raitt
Nobody Wins – The Veronicas
Mouth Shut – The Veronicas
Tomorrow – Chris Young

I did include a few artists that get a lot of radio play but none of the songs are overplayed. You can’t to heart break without Taylor Swift. I love Against All Odds but Carey’s version lacked conviction. It was so delicate and sweet. Mouth Shut had a little too much musical oomph for me to consider it a ‘mourning lost love’ song but the sentiment is there.

Jar of Hearts is glorious but it toes the line between ‘broken heart’ and ‘screw you.’ Not Like the Movies is sad but it has a note of optimism to it. The optimism comes later.
